These are the days…..

Last night was the last of the colder nights (I hope) until next winter rolls back around.

Waylon gave me a total scare after I found him at evening feeding time totally motionless and upside down with his feet in the air… He is ok, but I’ve learned this is common in chickens with one wing, so now I need to monitor him more regularly and if I’m not home, I’ll need to make sure he’s in a small space and unable to jump, which is what causes him to lose balance and topple over.

I’ve managed to *not* run out of hay, but damn I’m close. I don’t recall ever needing to feed hay this late in March…

The animals have been enjoying the spring days and I’ve been working outside on my porch plants for hours on end… I have had to start topping my big pots with Cayenne pepper to keep the squirrels from hiding their nuts in them...

I have a few goals this year that I didn’t share in January. Goals that were a bit dependent on the status of something else I’ve been working on but cannot share at the moment….

  • lots of porch plants - I’ve been working on ferns, ivy, lots of different flower & grass seedlings, and dahlias.
  • More ‘worn’ posts. It’s been a lonnnnnng time since fashion has really inspired me..
  • A clean porch, perfect for social hangs- the last two years my porches have been cluttered catch-alls.
  • A safe-for-Poptart front porch, meaning gated so she can hang out without the chance she’d stumble down the steps..
  • a cute little green vintage Formica-topped table perfect for evening coffee with rum cake (thanks Bryn), brunch, and sunset supper…

Both horses have been rolling and shedding their winter coats, although I can only find evidence of this from Buddy’s light colored blonde puddles in the pasture.. if you know, you know…

Pet-sitting has taken me to the most beautiful little hidden places that I’d otherwise not ever discovered. I’m so grateful that so many trust me with their pups and cats (and sometimes other species), and that I enjoy what I’m doing these days.

My little lawn tractor has been in the shop a week now and will be for a few more weeks, so no mowing for me for a bit. This gives me a little anxiety knowing how much the grass is going to grow in three weeks, so I’ve been countering that with things that would normally get pushed aside due to the need to mow…

I’ve been working on my little secret plant experiment that I hope to be ready in time for Mother’s Day, but as it is completely unchartered territory for me, all I can do is wait and see…

Here are some other pics I snapped today....
Reece keeping me company on the porch while I was starting some seeds this eve....
Poptart doing her all time favorite thing.... WATER.
I caught my reflection at a pet sitting job today ....

foggy morning walk with my boy....
...I found a mummified lizard in the last bit of hay....
...just before a soak...
...someone is ready for dreamin'...
my inner 8-year-old made lunch...
workin'....
