I am excited for the weekend as always, and wanted to share some updates from the farm and plans for the weekend....
I am finally getting used to not having ol' Eddie bop around here.... He lended this place such a happy light that is dearly missed. He was so easy, so gentle, and different than any dog I have ever known. He never ever acted 'old'. He had a puppy's heart and spirit until the very end.
I had planned on taking Sister (one of my chickens), to be euthanized this evening because she seemed to have some neurological issues going on since Sunday. She cannot grip with her feet. So Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday she wasn't eating or drinking because she wouldn't walk to the water or food. I started doing some physical therapy with her Tuesday evening, and each day since and guess what???? SHE IS WALKING NOW! I was reading about all of her symptoms and it seems she could have Mareks disease.... anyone ever dealt with this? While she IS walking, she still cannot grip anything with her feet :( I know it is rare to have a chicken recover from this disease and everything I have read pretty much says it is fatal, I will keep a close eye on her, making sure not to let her suffer, but if she can adapt to get around like she was doing yesterday, I say that is good!
Everyone else is doing well, I think I am going to move the goats around this weekend to eat some of the lush new grass that has grown on the backside of the property, and this will give me a chance to give their field a fresh cutting and mulch some of the leaves in the pasture they are in now...
I have a few burn piles I'd like to take care of, get some hay, prune some things that need it before spring (my rose of sharons, blueberry bushes), clean up the overgrowth around the house (since the goats like to leave the stalks of most things behind when they eat), and drag the horse's field before Monday. I also am planning a new recipe for Sweet Stuff Sunday (first one of 2020!!), breakfast date with a friend, some dog training, and I have a little sewing project I would like to start.... Yeah, I always have way too much I wanna do, but you only live once right? I plan and live like time is of the essence - because, it is.
I think this is the weekend I will start amping up Reece's training. I finally found a treat that he LOVES more than toys. Hopefully Monday I will be able to share some progress (tiny steps of course) with my boy....
I am heading out to walk my boy, feed the horses, goats, and check on my two disabled chickens (jeez. I never thought I'd be running a home for seniors like this - ha!), and then off to the job that pays the farm mortgage. Happy Friday, y'all and I will be back tomorrow morning with a very special and dear-to-me post for the weekly photo segment here.....
xoxo
