saturday snapshots, unexpected surprises...

I usually take Saturdays off from shelter dogs and rescue stuff, BUT this morning, I had already been out to buy Charity (the longest term shelter dog at ACCAC) a new spiffy little outfit for some super cute photos..... Her time was reeeeeeeally down to the wire and I was trying to pull out all the stops.

Long story short, I had only planned to be there maybe 30 minutes, but due to the packed shelter, and a few very high risk dogs, I decided to say my goodbyes - just in case.....

Spock here is verrrrrry high risk... if you are considering adding a furry member to your family, I suggest this fella. He is neutered, and has a fund set up to help with the cost of his heart worm treatment that is needed. Read all about him HERE

the oldest residents and those in need of medical care are usually the top contenders for.... euthanasia.

I spent some quality time with Spock, then Charity, then Aretha (she wasn't a top contender, but she needs a little help)... Well, due to her lack of wanting to give up her toy, and due to my willingness to hang out until she decided she was done with it, as I was putting her back in her kennel, a family was walking past all the dogs....

Aretha seen below, was NOT giving up her toy so easily....

I asked if they were there to just feed treats, or were they looking to adopt or foster...

They were looking for a dog in need of being rescued. A high risk. A senior, a long term, or just a special needs dog. A dog that had the cards stacked against them.....

Well..... they walked out of the shelter about an hour later with Charity!!!!! After 158 days, she finally would get her peace of a quiet home. This day did not go as I had planned at all, but it sure worked out the way it was supposed to. Had little Aretha not been so stubborn, I wouldn't have been there to answer questions about the most needy dogs..... and guess what? Just like sliding doors, as Charity walked out of the shelter, a new dog literally was put into her kennel. A life was saved. This kind of day - this kind of unplanned, hectic seeming, and a bit sad day, turned into exactly what it was meant to be.

Here are a few of my other Saturday snapshots.... enjoy.

...I did clean the pool also - so I know what I am doing the rest of the weekend......
