Last day of March! Mixtape!!

I am super excited about the coming of warmer weather, along with the longer days... It will mean an end to all this spinach we've been growing, but now it is time for warmer weather stuff! I totally forgot to post this 'Thursday Mixtape' last week, mostly because I was so happy about Thursday being MY Friday since Good Friday is a holiday at my day job.

Yesterday was good indeed....I picked up sweet Coco from the rescue and took her out to my favorite antique place in Carlton, GA where she scared most people ... ooooops...

Thennnnnn I helped out at the rescue for a bit before heading to the local animal control to see Timmy, only to find out... HE GOT ADOPTED!!!!! Wood-hoooo!

Then the evening brought two sisters out, friends who hadn't been out to the farm since it was just an old grown up homestead we had recently bought. It was nice to be able to show them a few years worth of bringing this place back to life.

Now on to the mixtape.... this one is special in the sense that last night, we figured out that Eddie, who has been having a hard time lately with senior moments and being a tad confused, seems to really react well to the Beatles (this mix starts out with Beatles, and has another song or two on it as well)... He had gotten to where he whines all the time, poor boy. He gets confused and can't see or hear very well, but something about keeping the Beatles on all through the night, and he slept like a baby.. hmmm.

so here goes the Thursday Mixtape on this beautiful Saturday morning...

anyway, Happy Saturday!!! <3

I just can't get into the swing of updating here more than a few times a week these days! So sorry about that, BUT I am going to try to dedicate one long post a week that updates all the happenings from the week. For daily updates, you can visit the Instagram page (HERE), as I upload pics there several times a day!

I have decided to take on a few new things lately that really fulfill me, like once a week lunch breaks at the local animal control to be an advocate for one of the dogs there... I don't know what it is about this time of year, but I get really grateful and feel this uncontrollable urge to do something to 'help out' the universe... Last year this time, I decided that I would step up and officially join the Colbert Vet Rescue team and be the volunteer coordinator... I am still doing that as well as having my ONE DOG there that I am working really hard on getting adopted... At the moment, Coco is my project there. You may have figured out that Timmy is my little adoption project at the Athens-Clarke County Animal Control. He is awesome, and I could easily see myself taking him, but we just couldn't do that to our old man Eddie. Eddie has his senior moments (more and more as time goes on), and as much as he LOVES playing with other dogs, I could see him hurting someone's feelings if it were a full time thing...
Aside from advocating for the shelter pups, I have been picking spinach! Lots of it!! It has actually been extremely exciting to harvest something that I can and have been eating lots of every day!! I am really enjoying my 'internship' with my growing guru out here... I was a little hesitant because I have always started out with lots of enthusiasm in my little garden here, but I never got to this point of actually getting this IN to the results. I am hoping this year, having a pro out here to show me and help me understand the ways of growing and harvesting, will help me stick to it. Root for me y'all! <3

Last weekend, I put my nose to the grindstone and got deep in the filth of the big concrete building on the property..... Christian made me a Father John Misty/ Leonard Cohen mix cd, and I popped that in the stereo and BOOM! I was zoned in, cleaning (almost as good as a stoner at the end of a late night bartending shift)... ;) anyway, I am going to start with how awful it was inside that building, because that is the sole reason I am JUST NOW getting around to actually cleaning it....  When I first bought this place four years ago, this building was a boarding facility for dogs...complete with FIFTY little doggy-sized openings. THAT WERE OPEN.... and that allowed for LOTS of critters to use this as their home. There were even a few skeletons inside that looked like it could have been the remains of a fox's meal. So, I started with the outside, getting blocks, mortar, sand, and paint. Fast forward to now, and I have five more doors to block in, but the 'doors' are secured from animals entering. Aside from a big black snake that serves as my au`naturale rodent control, we are pretty good! - so back to the initial update, last weekend, I masked up, and removed the few remains of animals - just dusty skeletons at this point - and swept and scraped every inch of that 1300 sq ft building. I was actually amazed that I did it in less than a day. This weekend I am hoping to get back to painting a few more of the desks inside so that I can move those on out while collecting a little $$ for future farm projects.....

This weekend, I am going to be focusing on the farmscape. Since I was lost in my cleaning zone last weekend, no grass got cut, and when you have this much land, and the right amount of rain, things can get out of hand quickly!

I am leaving you with this video from Father John Misty album "pure comedy". If you have been listening along to the mixtape Christian puts up, you'll hear a good bit from FJM.... I am super duper glad it is Friday. I have one good day forecasted for outdoor work, and since it will be raining Sunday, I am guessing I will continue my work INSIDE the concrete building listening to stuff like this... it's soothing and so funny at the same time...

Tailwagger Tuesday! Coco & Timmy!!

double edition today!!! Coco STILL needs to find her FURever home and is housed at the rescue. If you are interested in her, message me using the form to the left on this page! Timmy is my new crush.... He is currently housed at the Athens Clarke County Animal Control. His ledger number is listed below if you want to call the shelter and inquire about him. Feel free to shoot me a message about him as well, as I have spent a good amount of time with him and would love to tell you more about him!

Meet Timmy! I met him last week after a friend picked him up on the side of the road. He had a bad limp, some scabs and skin issues, but still managed to have a bright and beautiful demeanor and tons of kisses and love to give. I went back today to see him on my lunch break. He is currently housed at Athens-Clarke Animal Control and if you remember sweet Valentine that was rescued by Colbert Vet Rescue, he looks similar! He has a nice set of big ears and is a small compact fella weighing in around 45 lbs. He looks sooooo much better in just one week after getting care from the staff and I think he'd make someone an excellent companion! He passed his test with cats (he cowered after being hissed and swatted at), and although he has what appear to be some fighting scars around his neck, he doesn't seem to be negatively reactive to other dogs. This is just my observation in seeing his tail wag when other dogs are in the runs outside. He is not neutered, and will need vetting, but HE IS HEARTWORM NEGATIVE!! If you think he's as cute as I do, call up the #athensclarkecountyanimalcontrol and inquire about him!! His ledger number is #48852 if you do call or want to visit him!

Coco is such a GOOD GIRL!

She needs to find her furever home! She's been with the rescue far too long and needs a bed and a person to cuddle up with! ❤️Read her story, look at her pics. She's around 1 year old, spayed, fully vetted, microchipped, and UTD on heartworm and flea meds. She is also crate trained, leash trained and knows how to sit. She does get a bit excited sometimes, but she's still a young pup (just over a year old). Her
only problem is that she has anxiety around men and certain strangers, but only until you get some time in with her. Then she's perfect! She plays well with other dogs, is fine with cats, but plays a little rough at times, so maybe a home with no young children. Interested in fostering or adopting?!?! Message me!

Coco Coco Coco!!!

Sweet Coco needs someone to take a chance on her! She is unbelievably sweet, super loving, and 100% LOVE BUG!!

She keeps getting passed over because she just has an issue with strangers - at first....Once you are no longer a stranger, she will kiss you allllll over!

She doesn't really want to have anything to do with you until you prove to her that you're trustworthy. That can be done easily with about 30 minutes, a few treats, and a good 15 minute walk followed by another 15 minutes playing in an interaction pen. She has been short term fostered, and does well with NO ACCIDENTS, and LOVES playing with other dogs.

Her foster home had a male pitbull that she adored, but she needs someone willing to give her something more permanent. If I didn't have such an old boy at home, I would totally take her myself.

This post is all about Coco, and here are the many pictures I have snapped of this pretty girl, as well as some from her foster home that unfortunately could not long term foster her due to work schedule.

She is around a year old, was not socialized with people properly so is uncertain of men, but also new people in general. Some women she loves right off the bat.

If you would like to set up a playdate with Coco and your well behaved/ socialized pup, or if you'd like to meet her in hopes of maybe being HER PERSON, please shoot me a message using the form to the left of this page! She is currently housed at the Colbert Vet Rescue in Colbert, GA and is always looking for a good walk! She likes to chase cats, but once she catches up to them has no idea what to do, so does nothing. She's never bitten anyone at the rescue, so her anxiety does not trigger her to bite, just bark.

Give her a chance, wontcha?!?!?
